Topic Maps

• Presenter: Terry Badger - Kodak
  • Topic maps are a way of thinking more abstractly about object relationships:
    • create topics or concepts, i.e. family - mother, brother, sister, parent, etc.
    • relate topics to topics - father, parent
    • relate topics to objects - Sam - brother, father, parent
  • Helps create a navagation schema that works:
    • High Fidelity
    • Late Binding - not hardcoded in HTML
    • Portability - through indirection
    • High relevance v. high number of hits
  • Aids in Internationalization
  • Possible alternative use:
    • Publication indices
