Review of Last Meeting's (April 1999) Minutes

Don walked through the minutes from April's meeting

RNYSXUG Web Site Development

Don, Randi and Bob took the information from the April meeting and built the prototype for the RNYSXUG Web Site.

Don is still waiting for a response for the WEB support group at West Group about the second DNS required for the dedicated web address

Suggestions from attendees:

Add links to www.microsoft.com/XML and other tutorial-based sites from RNYSXUG tutorials web page

Reorganize member page and add member bio's

Check with Servtech ( www.servtech.com ) to host web site - Dave Dewey (servtech) performed this function for the previous RNYSUG.

Get member company logo's to post on the site - members to send logo's to Don (don.capuano@westgroup.com), Bob (rfarney@servtech.com), or Randi (randi.barrell@westgroup.com)

FM+SGML Demo - XML functionality

Lori DeFurio (Adobe ) gave an demo of FM+SGML and it's XML functionality

Latest version - 5.5.6 ( August Release )

New Functionality:

Place PDF - allows user to place a PDF in a FM+SGML document

XML Support

Can export a FM+SGML document to XML format. The process utilizes the SGML DTD used for the FM+SGML document.

This process XML-izes the data - XML Processing instruction, adds end tags, etc.

Cannot currently import an XML document to FM+SGML due to structure requirements of FM+SGML

Currently working on a filter to allow use of XML in FM+SGML

XML export process also produces a CSS but is based on the FM+SGML style type not on the XML elements

Currently have a plug-in which produces CSS based on the structure of the document instead of the FM+SGML style ( http://www.adobe.com/supportservice/custsupport/LIBRARY/fmswin.htm )

Lori also mentioned that Adobe and Apple are co-sponsoring an event at the Rochester Crown Plaza Hotel on Thursday June 17, 1999 centered around Adobe's InDesign product ( http://17.126.0.91/action.lasso?[database]=Sem+Info+Master&[layout]=websearch&[response]=/iso/registration.html&[token]=140&[recid]=39207&[search] )
